ELECTRICAL POWER SYSTEM ENGINEERING AND CONSULTING
Infrared Inspections
Infrared Testing is a widely recognized form of non destructive testing used in preventive and predictive maintenance programs. Infrared thermography helps to locate many electrical problems as they are developing, often before they can be found in any other way. A periodic infrared survey is the most cost-effective method of predictive maintenance that can be performed on electrical equipment and facilities. It allows repairs to be made safely during a scheduled shutdown before they cause a failure or serious damage to equipment and personnel.
During an Infrared inspection IES can detect abnormal heating caused poor connections, short circuits, overloads, load imbalances and faulty, mismatched or improperly installed components in your electrical system. We use an infrared camera to inspect all or part of the entire electrical system including transformers, switchgear, distribution centers, sub-feed panels, distribution panels, bus ducts, motor control centers, connectors, back-up batteries etc. Upon completion of the inspection we prepare a report with photographs of the equipment surveyed that can be kept from year to year to compare the results.
There are many benefits to having an infrared inspection including:
locates problems without interrupting services or production.
reduces costly, unscheduled interruptions due to power outages.
allows proactive maintenance of electrical equipment.
necessary replacement parts can be ordered ahead of time minimizing outages and production interruptions.
extends the life of electrical equipment by detecting and repairing problems that would eventually lead to catastrophic failure.
may reduce your insurance costs (check with your insurance company).
